Bangladesh airports set to charge safety, development fees from all outbound passengers

The government, for the first time, has decided to charge fees under two new categories from all outbound passengers for using airports in Bangladesh from August 1 this year.

The Civil Aviation of Bangladesh (CAAB) issued a letter, signed by its Director (Finance) Mohammad Moazzem Hossain, in this regard on Wednesday.

It said all outbound passengers using the country’s airports will have to pay “Passenger Safety Fee” and “Airport Development Fee” from August 1.

The decision to impose these fees was taken to improve passenger safety, and the airports’ service quality and infrastructure, CAAB said.

It divided passengers into three categories -- domestic, passengers from Saarc countries, and passengers from other countries.

The domestic passengers will have to pay a total of Tk170. Tk70 as Passenger Safety Fee and Tk100 as Airport Development Fee.

The passengers from Saarc countries will be charged $5 for Airport Development fee and $6 for Passenger Safety Fee.

Meanwhile, both fees will be $10 for passengers from other countries.

On February 27, the Finance Ministry had sent a letter to the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry to take steps in regards to these fees, sources said.
