Dr Zafrullah’s condition improves

Doctors on Wednesday said the health of Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury suffering from Covid-19 pneumonia has improved.

In a statement Prof Brig Gen (Retd) Mamun Mostafiz said the level of artificial oxygen intake by Zafrullah has also reduced, reports UNB.

"He is feeling better than before,” said Dr Mostafiz.

Zafrullah has been undergoing regular dialysis and chest physiotherapy, he added.

Gonoshasthaya Kendra Public Relations Officer Forhad Hossain said Zafrullah’s physical condition is now stable with some visible improvement.

Earlier on Tuesday, an online medical board was formed comprising local and foreign doctors for his treatment.

The condition of Zafrullah, who tested positive for coronavirus, deteriorated slightly last Thursday after he developed breathing complications.

He has been receiving treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in the city's Dhanmondi area under the supervision of Brig Dr Mamun Mustafiz and Prof Dr Najib.

A freedom fighter, Zafrullah tested himself with the kit developed by Gonoshasthaya on May 25.

Four days later, a RT-PCR test at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) also found he was positive for Sars-Cov2.

He was given plasma therapy thrice to help strengthen his immune system in bid to beat the deadly virus.
