Grameen Telecom has distributed more than one million masks for free among the disadvantaged people in remote areas of the country.
A total of 37 organizations including Grameen organizations as well as various NGOs and voluntary organizations outside Grameen took part in handing out these masks, according to a statement published on Wednesday.
The government has made the use of face masks compulsory for all, as the use of masks is essential for personal health protection.
The masks supplied by the Grameen Telecom are effective and reusable and so the use of masks by the general public, especially the poor, can be ensured, the statement said.
Grameen Fabrics and Fashions Ltd, funded by Grameen Telecom, started producing these masks at the end of last April.
They took the initiative to hand out these masks to those who cannot afford them and those who do not have access to them from April 30.
Grameen Telecom will continue the production and distribution of these masks until the coronavirus is brought under control in the country, the statement reads.
