The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has extended the suspension of passenger flights to all countries except China till April 14, in order to contain the coronavirus outbreak, CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.
Chartered flights and flights between Bangladesh and China will remain in operation, he added.
Earlier, the CAAB extended the suspension of passenger flights to all countries except the United Kingdom and China till April 7.
Meanwhile, Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Sunday suspended all of its international and domestic flights until April 14, Md Mokabbir Hossain, managing director of the national flag carrier, confirmed.
On March 21, international commercial passenger flights with 10 countries -- Malaysia, Oman, Singapore, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, India, and Bahrain -- were suspended.
In a desperate attempt to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country, the government has suspended bus, train, launch and air services across the country.
As of Sunday, Bangladesh has so far recorded nine deaths and 88 cases of Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The fast spreading coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has claimed 65,600 lives and infected 1,213,194 people across the world till 4:15pm on Sunday, according to worldometer.
As many as 253,597 people have recovered from Covid-19, the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, which has spread to 207 countries and territories across the planet.
