Bangladesh Railway will be donating a day’s salary of all railway officials, worth Tk1.5crore, to the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund to help in the fight against the spread of the lethal coronavirus.
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said: “Bangladesh Railway has already handed the donation money over to me for delivering it to the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund.”
“Since we intend to handover the donation to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in person, we have applied for an appointment, which we will likely get next Sunday,” he told the Dhaka Tribune.
The coronavirus epidemic has so far caused 54 infections and six deaths in Bangladesh. The government announced a general holiday to prevent spread of the virus.
