Three other expatriates in Shariatpur have been fined by mobile courts for violating the government directive of home quarantine.
The mobile courts fined Robin Sardar, Sagar Mandal and Liton Bepari of Naria upazila Tk50,000, Tk25,000 and Tk5,000 respectively.
They recently returned from Italy and Saudi Arabia, respectively.
Naria upazila Executive Magistrate Md Saiful, also assistant commissioner (land), and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Mahbur Rahman Sheikh confirmed the matter.
From February 28 to March 16, about 250 expatriates returned to Shariatpur, as per Health Department data. Of which, 223 were asked to be home quarantined.
Over the last few days, some 27 finished their 14-day quarantine period.
Around 150,000 people from Shariatpur are working abroad according to Deputy Commissioner’s Office data.
Two overseas returnees, one from Iraq and another from Australia, have been fined by mobile courts in Saturia and Ghior upazilas of the district for breaching rules of home quarantine.
Meanwhile, one Italy returnee was warned by health officials of Laksam in Comilla to strictly maintain home quarantine.
On Monday, the government made 14-day home quarantine mandatory for anyone arriving here from abroad.
