152 more Bangladeshis return home from Italy

Another batch of 152 Bangladeshis have returned home from Italy, which has been under lockdown following a massive coronavirus outbreak.

An Emirates flight carrying the batch landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday morning.

“After arriving at the airport, the returnees were screened by the airport medical staff and were then sent to Ashkona Hajj Camp for check-up,” Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan, director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), told Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier on Saturday, a total of 142 Bangladeshis, who returned from Italy, which recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in Europe, were sent to be quarantined at Ashkona Hajj Camp in Dhaka. Later, they were allowed to go home after day

A coronavirus tracker map from John Hopkins University showed there were more than 150,000 confirmed cases worldwide on Saturday, with the death toll topping 5,600.

On Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that Europe was now the epicentre for the global coronavirus pandemic and reporting more daily cases than China did at the height of its outbreak, reported Reuters.
