The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has directed local authorities to list all returnees from China in the last 14 days amid the highly-contagious coronavirus outbreak.
The decision was taken during a Corona Virus Control Room meeting, held at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) meeting on Tuesday with Director General Prof Abul Kalam Azad in the chair, the IEDCR said in a press release issued on Wednesday night.
As per the decision, deputy commissioners, police superintendents and civil surgeons have been asked to prepare the list in their respective districts.
The statement also said civil surgeons were briefed on the overall situation of the outbreak (2019-nCoVm) and were given instructions on how to stop the spread of the virus. It also asked them to inform all heath officials in this regard.
At the same time, the press release also said the Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) have been briefed regarding travelling to and from China, the country of origin of the outbreak.
Chinese health authorities said there were 7,711 confirmed cases of infection as of the end of Wednesday, mostly in Hubei province where the death toll rose to 170.
