In the biggest airplane crash in Bangladeshi airline history, 50 people lost their lives in Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday.
This tragedy has not only affected many families in Bangladesh, but also in Nepal, China and the Maldives.
One family in Nagarhawa village in Gazipur is in turmoil with news of five family members being involved in the crash. Annie Almun Nahar, 21, is injured but alive, but her husband Hossain Faruq Priok, 32, and their three-year-old daughter Prionmoyee Tamarra are still missing.
Priok’s cousin Mehdi Hasan Masum, 33, and his wife Shwarna Saiyada Kamrunnahar, 22, were also on that fateful plane but has survived.
Their uncle Sheikh Shadman Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune: “We heard that Priok might be dead, but we have no concrete information on this or on the child. We have been getting small amounts of information from the rest of the family who are alive.
“Priok might be dead, and Prionmoyee is missing for sure.” Priok is a freelance photographer who loves travelling around the world.

Collected from facebookMeanwhile, another couple on their anniversary trip is still missing. Tahira Shashi, a student at the department of criminology in Dhaka University, and her husband Rezwanul Haque Shaon, assistant registrar at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, were on their way to Nepal to celebrate six years of their marriage.
Tahira had posted their anniversary celebration plans on Facebook from the airport, which has unfortunately gone very wrong.
The family of Begum Harun Nahar Bilquis Banu, who was on the plane with her husband Md Hasan Imam, was clearly distraught when the Dhaka Tribune spoke to them.
Banu’s sister Mojida Aktar Bithi broke down, saying: “My sister and her husband was on the flight and we cannot find any information on their whereabouts. If they are alive, we want confirmation now, and if they have passed away, we want their bodies home now.”
The couple was still missing when this report was filed.
Two government officials – Umme Salma, senior assistant at the Planning Commission, and Nazia Afrin Chowdhury, senior assistant chief at the Planning Commission – are also still missing.
Umme’s brother S M Abul Kalam Azad said: “My sister was on an official three-day trip with a colleague…” He trailed off before breaking into tears.
Businessman Kabir Hussain survived the crash, his son Shaon confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune. “My father was on a trip with two other businessmen. One of them identified my father at the hospital and called me to say he was alive. That is how I found out.”
Kabir Hussain is currently at the SCU unit of Kathmandu Medical Hospital.
