‘Ring road, barbed wire fences to be built along Myanmar border’

The government has undertaken a plan to install barbed wire fences and a 271km ring road from Shahpari Island along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in phases. “We will install barbed wire fences and construct a 271km ring road from Shahpori Island on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border,” Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told parliament while replying to a question from treasury bench lawmaker M Yeasin Ali of Thakurgaon on Sunday. The project is aimed at preventing illegal intrusion, drug smuggling and other forms of crimes on the border, he added.
