Deal inked to connect Silchar and Karimganj with Bangladesh via railway

The Bangladesh Railway and Kalindee Rail Nirmaan signed an agreement on Wednesday to connect Assam’s Silchar and Karimganj with Bangladesh via railway by 2019.
Mohammad Abdul Hai, general manager of Bangladesh Railway (East) and Sharad Sharma, president of Texmaco Rail and Engineering Limited signed the deal in Dhaka, Texmaco sources said.
Kalindee Rail Nirmaan is a subsidiary unit of India’s Texmaco, a premier multi-discipline, multi-unit engineering and infrastructure company at Kolkata.
The signing ceremony was attended by Bangladesh Railway Minister Mujibul Haque and railways’ Director General Amzad Hossain.
The agreement was signed to restore the snapped railway route between Moulvibazar’s Shahbaazpur and Karimganj’s Mahishasan as well.
The line between Silchar-Karimganj and Bangladesh would consist of 44.77km main line and 7.77km loop line.
Six rail stations will be constructed on Juri, Dakshinbaag, Kanthaltali, Baralekha, Murail and Shahbaazpur.
Minister Mujibul said the project was important, and urged Kalindee Rail Nirmaan to finish the work as soon as possible.
