The mobile court, however, fined five businessmen Tk35,000 on charges of not using the jute bags during the drives.
Chittagong District Administration sources said a mobile court drive was conducted at the rice market of Chaktai area led by Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mansur while Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) assisted the mobile court.
Witnesses said during the drive, an altercation ensued between the market’s general secretary Omar Azam and the members of RAB-7 when the RAB personnel tried to bar the spectators from the spot triggering the businessmen’s protest.
Following the incident the businessman besieged the magistrate for around half an hour while the RAB members later brought the situation under control, said the sources.
Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mansur told Dhaka Tribune: “The altercation between the general secretary and the RAB personnel ensued when the RAB men physically barred him from entering the store unintentionally.”
“He was among the crowd while it was just a misunderstanding and the matter was resolved there instantly after getting his identity,” said the Executive Magistrate brushing away the "besieged" issue.
Abdullah Al Mansur said the mobile court fined five businessmen TK35,000 for not to using jute bags in packaging while the mobile court also warned the businessmen verbally and asked them to use them in future.
