Teenager dies in police custody

An teenage boy alleged to be a drug addict has died in police custody in Mymensingh. The deceased, Pranto Chandra Dey, 17, was son of Robi Chandra Dey and resident of Golpukurpar area in the district town. Locals said Sub-Inspector Uzzal Sarkar of Kotwali police station detained Pranto with 15 yaba pills in Durgabari area on Friday afternoon. “Pranto fell ill after he was taken to police custody. Later, he was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead,” said Kotwali OC Kamrul Islam. The victim's elder brother Mithu Chandra Dey claimed that his brother was not a drug addict. SI Uzzal refused to make a comment in the matter when the Dhaka Tribune contacted him.
