India Today NE apologizes for misinformation about PM Hasina

The portal also retracted the news before expressing apology

Update : 25 Jul 2024, 03:30 PM

The India Today NE has apologized for spreading misinformation about Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The portal also retracted the news before expressing apology following the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi’s rejoinder.

The outlet claimed Prime Minister Hasina was airlifted amid violent clashes in Dhaka. The report caused confusion before being retracted, and India Today NE has since apologized for the misinformation.

“The India Today NE sincerely apologizes for this unintentional error and regrets any confusion or tension it may have caused in our neighbouring country. As a respected news publication, we remain committed to journalism that is both factual and ethical,” it said.

The Bangladesh High Commission, earlier, rejected the claim in an official rejoinder.
