RAB Director General Md Harun-Ar-Rashid has said there will never be a resurgence of terrorism and fundamentalism in the country, stating that Bangladesh is one of the safest countries in the world right now.

The Rapid Action Batallion chief made the statement in response to a question from journalists on Monday after he paid tribute to those killed in a terrorist attack at Holey Artisan Bakery eight years ago.

When asked about Bangladesh's success in eliminating terrorism, Harun, an additional inspector general of police, said: "On this day in 2016, there was a terrorist attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan. Two police officers and several foreign nationals were killed. Subsequently, RAB and the police conducted operations at terrorist hideouts based on intelligence information. RAB and the police were able to destroy many terrorist hideouts, with many terrorists arrested and brought to justice."

"Terrorism is now largely under control. Bangladesh is now a safe country."

Regarding RAB's success in combating terrorism, he said: "Since its inception, RAB has been working against terrorism and extremism… Terrorism and extremism will not be able to rise again in this country. RAB has the capability [to ensure that]."
