Cow or goat meat is eaten for several days in a row during Eid-ul-Azha. There is no way to avoid eating meat during Eid, and there is no need to.
However, besides eating in moderation, emphasis should be placed on cooking according to the rules.
Vegetables and other healthy foods should not be avoided even if you keep red meat in your diet. If you want to be healthy even if you eat meat, it is important to know some information.
Nutritionist Nahida Ahmed of Farazy Hospital and Diagnostic Limited, and Clinical Dietitian and Nutrition Consultant Fatima Siddiqui Chanda of Ibn Sina Diagnostic and Consultation Centre provided the following 13 advise:
- Meat should be cooked without visible fat and in less oil.
- The American Heart Association says that when cutting meat, smaller and thinner cuts are better for health. As a result, there is no risk of fat retention.
- If possible, before cooking the meat, boil the meat for 5-10 minutes and drain the water to reduce the fat content.
- Meat should be cooked on high.
- Avoid other protein-rich foods if you eat a lot of beef.
- While cooking meat, you can use vinegar, sour curd, papaya paste and lemon juice, etc. It is possible to reduce the harmful effects of fat to some extent.
- Those with hypertension or co-morbidities can eat 1-2 pieces after consulting a specialist if they cannot avoid it altogether. In that case, vegetables such as raw papaya, gourd, rice pumpkin, tomato or mushroom should be used in cooking meat. They can also mix meat with vegetables and eat cutlets or chops.
- 1 cup of cucumber, lemon, tomato etc. salad should be kept with food every day.
- Adding lemon water or sour curd to the list after meals also helps in improving the digestion process.
- It is better to eat meat without broth. Again, instead of roasting meat, meat can be eaten by grilling, barbecuing or making kababs with less oil.
- Instead of eating heavy meals made of meat for three meals, you can have very light food such as vegetable soup, vegetables and fruits in any one meal.
- Do not consume milk or dairy products immediately after eating beef. It can cause digestive disturbances or gastric problems.
- Eating excess beef can cause diarrhoea or allergic complications. Again, problems like constipation are seen by eating more red meat. If you want to stay away from constipation, drink plenty of water and water-based foods. Consume saline in case of diarrhoea.
