Cyclone Remal: Over 2L people affected in Bhola

As many as 223,303 people have been affected in Bhola as Cyclone Remal has wrecked a havoc in the district. 

Besides, five deaths have been reported in the district. 

According to the information of Bhola district administration, 523 wards of 60 unions of 5 municipalities and 70 unions of the district have been affected severely by Cyclone Remal. 

Some 5,158 houses were destroyed partially and 2,465 were destroyed completely.

Bhola Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Deputy Director agriculturist Md Warisul Kabir said that 5,000 hectares of paddy and 10, 791 hectares of summer vegetables have been damaged in Bhola district. 

In terms of money, the amount of loss has been estimated at Tk48.5 crore.

District Fisheries Officer Shri Biswajit Dev said that due to the large tide of Cyclone Remal, 756 tons of fish of 9,928 ponds and 1,439 enclosures were washed away in the district which valued Tk12.69 crore.

Besides 11.6 tons of shrimp worth Tk1.07crore were washed away. 

Along with this, infrastructure damage was reported at Tk1.6 crore. 

Besides, 184 fishing boats have been damaged, he added.

District Animal Resources Officer Md Rafiqul Islam Khan said that 176 cows, 269 buffaloes, 145 goats, 218 sheep died or were washed away in Bhola district due to Cyclone Remal. 

Besides, 9,614 chickens and 5,160 ducks died. The amount of damage is about Tk7 crore.

Deputy Commissioner Md Arifuzzaman said that the families of victims who died in Cyclone Remal will be given Tk25,000 in cash. 

Apart from this, after receiving the detailed description of the damage of all the departments, it will be reported to the higher authorities.
