Internet slowdown expected for 3 days during SMW-5 maintenance

Alternative connectivity will remain active to minimize the impact

Update : 08 Apr 2026, 06:06 PM

Internet speeds across Bangladesh may slow for three days due to scheduled maintenance work on the country’s second submarine cable, SMW-5, installed in Kuakata.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) said the work will be carried out from 10 pm on April 9 to 6 am on April 13.

During this period, international circuits routed to Singapore are expected to be partially affected, which may result in slower internet speeds and occasional service disruptions for users.

The company said alternative connectivity will remain active to minimize the impact.

International connections will be maintained through the country’s first submarine cable, SMW-4, located in Cox’s Bazar.

BSCPLC added that necessary measures have been taken to complete the work within the scheduled timeframe and restore normal services.
