‘Science should be made more fun’

Three science communicators talked about various aspects of education on the last day of Dhaka Lit Fest

The education system of Bangladesh is more theory-based rather than the technical aspects of science. This is why young students gradually become disinterested in science.

Such points came up in the discussion of three science communicators of the Child Health Research Foundation (CHRF) on Sunday, the last day of Dhaka Lit Fest.

In a session titled “Future Scientist,” they discussed how students lack in comprehension of studies and the difference between higher education and high school education.

Panellists Nazifa Tabassum, Jaasia Hafsa and Adittya Arefin elaborated on the role of CRF in reducing child health and infectious disease rates in Bangladesh.

Several students of an English medium school in Dhaka participated in this session. The young students were asked about the steps necessary to make scientists in the future.

In this participatory session, the audience was also asked about how science can be made more interesting to young students.

Science should be made more fun to study and by combining science with life, it can be made more interesting to young students, the audience suggested.

The fourth and closing day of the 10th edition of Dhaka Lit Fest is packed with activities.

The day started with spiritual music at Bangla Academy at 9am.

The closing ceremony is set to start at 5:30pm. It will include a dance performance at Bangla Academy's AKSB Auditorium.

Later, at around 6:30pm, the main attraction of the closing event -- a concert by Coke Studio Bangla -- will take place.

The lineup for the show is artists Animes Roy, Pantha Kanai, Rubayat Rehman, Rituraj, Nandita, Sunidhi Nayak and Boga Taleb.

The first three days of the 10th edition of Dhaka Lit Fest attracted huge crowds from all around the globe.
