A bill repealing the security provisions for members of the family of the Father of the Nation has been passed in the National Parliament.

The repealing bill was passed by voice vote of Members of Parliament on the 11th day of the first session of the 13th Parliament on Wednesday.

The bill, issued as an ordinance by the interim government, was tabled in parliament by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.

In the statement of objectives and reasons, the bill noted that the “Father of the Nation’s Family Members Security Act, 2009 (Act No. 63 of 2009)” was published in the official gazette on October 15, 2009. Later, in view of necessity, a notification was issued on May 25, 2015, to take measures and provide facilities aimed at ensuring the security of members of the Father of the Nation’s family.

The statement added that the law was enacted to grant special state privileges to members of a single family, which was considered clear discrimination. As a result, during the tenure of the interim government, a policy decision was taken to repeal the “Father of the Nation’s Family Members Security Act, 2009.”

With the approval of the resident, the “Father of the Nation’s Family Members Security (Repeal) Ordinance, 2024” was issued on September 9, 2024. In this context, the ordinance was presented as a bill for approval in the 13th National Parliament.
