3 killed, 5 injured as microbus plunges into ditch in Chittagong

The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately

Three people were killed and five others injured after a microbus veered off the Chittagong–Cox’s Bazar highway and fell into a roadside ditch in Lohagara upazila of Chittagong on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred around 9am in the Chunati Jangalya area, in front of the Lohagara Ranger Office.

The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately.

According to witnesses, the speeding microbus lost control and plunged into the ditch beside the highway, killing three people on the spot.

Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene and, with assistance from locals, carried out rescue operations.

The injured were rescued and taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex and other nearby hospitals. Critically injured victims were later shifted to Chittagong for advanced treatment.

Lohagara Fire Service Station officer Rakhal Chandra Rudra said the microbus first crashed into a tree after losing control in the Jangalya area before falling into the ditch on the western side of the highway, leading to the casualties.
