In the recently released 2025 world university rankings by Times Higher Education (THE), the University of Dhaka has been placed in the 1001-1200 bracket.
According to statistics from Times Higher Education, the university's ranking has been continuously declining since 2023.
In that year, the University of Dhaka achieved its highest rank, placing between 401-5000 bracket.
The universities are ranked based on five criteria: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook, and Industry.
The University of Dhaka received the following scores out of 100: 20.1 in Teaching, 10.3 in Research Environment, 67.2 in Research Quality, 48.3 in International Outlook, and 21.4 in Industry.
While asked about the decline, Professor Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university, said: "There are several research works from Dhaka University that could play a significant role in its ranking. Since taking on responsibility, we have been diligently documenting these works. Our administration has carefully examined the ranking criteria, and we are working to connect outstanding research with prominent journals for publication."
However, among the Bangladeshi universities, five institutions - Jahangirnagar University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Daffodil International University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, and North South University - were ranked in the 801–1000 bracket.
Though, there is no Bangladeshi university in the top 800 of THE world ranking.
