Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heatwaves and Nor'wester storms during March, with temperatures potentially climbing as high as 39°C.
According to the department’s monthly outlook issued on Sunday, one or two mild to moderate heatwaves may sweep across the western and south-western regions of the country toward the end of the month.
The forecast indicates that while rainfall is likely to remain near normal, both day and night temperatures may gradually increase and could stay above average for this time of year.
The BMD also predicted two to three days of light to moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hail during the month.
Additionally, there is a possibility of one to two spells of severe Nor'wester storms.
However, the department does not foresee the formation of any cyclones or low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal in March.
Regarding river conditions, the outlook suggests that major rivers across the country are expected to maintain normal flow throughout the month.
In terms of agro-meteorological conditions, the BMD noted a rising trend in daily average evaporation, which may increase irrigation demand for crops.
Farmers have been advised to take necessary preparatory measures in response to the expected weather conditions.
