Khoi Khoi Sai Marma produced a dazzling display at the 40th National Table Tennis Championships, clinching six gold medals as the eight-day tournament concluded at the Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium on Friday.
Khoi Khoi capped her remarkable run by winning the women’s senior singles title for the first time, defeating 2023 champion Sadia Rahman in straight sets in the final. She dominated the contest 3-0 to secure the gold and complete an unprecedented medal haul.
The BKSP paddler had earlier swept the junior section, winning gold in singles, doubles, team and mixed events. She also added the women’s singles and mixed doubles titles in the senior category, while finishing on the podium in the remaining two events to maintain a 100 percent medal-winning record throughout the championship.
“I lost to her (Sadia) in the quarterfinal of the 2023 edition, so I was worried this time as well,” Khoi Khoi said after the final. “Winning the doubles increased my confidence. I will try to keep it up.”
Her outstanding performance powered BKSP to overall supremacy, as the institution claimed nine of the 14 titles on offer across senior and junior events. Khoi Khoi credited regular and structured training for BKSP’s success in their first appearance at the national championships.
However, she admitted that the demanding schedule proved challenging, with a total of 830 matches played during the meet. “In the last three to four days, we had to play five to six games a day. Even today (Friday), I had to play five matches,” she said.
In the men’s section, Muhtasin Ahmed Ridoy of Bangladesh Army reclaimed the singles crown he had lost to Ramhim Lion Bawm last year, beating the same opponent 3-1 in the final. The victory marked Ridoy’s third national singles title, following his earlier triumphs in 2018 and 2020.
Ridoy also voiced concerns over the congested schedule, echoing Khoi Khoi’s sentiments and urging the federation to be “a bit more organised” in managing match fixtures in future editions.
