Young artistic gymnast Bonofuli Chakma became the first champion of the 1st National Youth Gymnastics Championship 2025 that began in Dhaka Wednesday.
She earned podiums in all four events in women’s section – top spot in vaulting table, second in uneven bar and balance beam, and third in floor - to win the title.
Hlakhing Marma and May May Shing Marma, representing Quantum Cosmo School and College, were adjudged first and second runner-up respectively.
Bonofuli played for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan who finished second in team standings led by Quantum.
Hlakhing clinched top spot in uneven bar and floor events, and second place in vaulting table.
May May Shing won first place in balance beam.
Bonofuli earned a total 37.45 points from four events while Hlakhing got 30.40.
The events of the men’s section were scheduled for later on the day.
Gymnastics Federation’s general secretary Habibur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune that there was no separate national competition for the youth in the past.
They are holding it for the first time as part of the Festival of Youth 2025.
The two-day long competition, being held at the National Sports Council gymnasium, includes three age categories – beginners, Under-12 and U-18.
