Joty, Ritu inspire Tigresses to first tri-series win against Scotland

Bangladesh Women bounced back from successive defeats to register their first victory in the ongoing tri-nation T20 series, defeating hosts Scotland by 34 runs in Edinburgh on Tuesday.

After losses to Scotland and the Netherlands in their opening fixtures, the Tigresses produced an all-round performance to get their campaign back on track, with captain Nigar Sultana Joty leading from the front and Ritu Moni delivering a career-best spell with the ball.

Asked to bat first, Bangladesh recovered from an early collapse to post a competitive 152 for six. The visitors were in trouble at 23 for three before Joty and Sobhana Mostary steadied the innings with a crucial 77-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Joty anchored the innings with a composed 58 off 47 balls, while Sobhana contributed 39. Their stand rescued Bangladesh from a precarious position and laid the foundation for a challenging total.

Shorna Akter then provided a late boost with a brisk 20, helping Bangladesh cross the 150-run mark.

Scotland's chase never gained sustained momentum as Bangladesh's bowlers struck regularly. Ritu Moni was the chief destroyer, returning career-best figures of four for 12 to dismantle the hosts' batting line-up.

Marufa Akter and Sanjida Akter Meghla claimed two wickets each as Scotland were bowled out for 118 in 19 overs.

Sarah Bryce offered some resistance with a team-high 40, while Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce scored 21, but the hosts ultimately fell well short of the target.

The victory not only ended Bangladesh's two-match losing streak in the tournament but also provided a timely confidence boost ahead of T20 World Cup.
