BCB president in Pakistan ahead of ICC emergency meeting

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam has arrived in Pakistan amid escalating tensions surrounding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, reported Geo News on Sunday.

According to sources, Aminul will take part in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) emergency virtual meeting scheduled for later today, where representatives from member boards are expected to discuss the fallout from Pakistan’s decision to boycott its match against India.

During his visit, the BCB chief is also scheduled to meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi before returning to Dhaka.

The development comes after Pakistan announced it would forfeit its World Cup fixture against India, scheduled for February 15, citing what the PCB described as a “biased approach” by the ICC in handling recent disputes involving Bangladesh.

Tensions between Bangladesh and India intensified after Bangladesh’s star pacer Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the Indian Premier League (IPL) following directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), triggering widespread criticism.

Subsequently, the BCB formally requested the ICC to relocate its tournament matches outside India. However, the ICC rejected the proposal, stating that it was not feasible to alter the schedule so close to the tournament’s February 7 start date.

Following Bangladesh’s firm stance, the ICC replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the competition, citing logistical constraints.

Meanwhile, the PCB has dismissed claims made by Indian media that it had sought dialogue with the ICC to resolve the issue surrounding its decision to boycott the India match. Pakistani officials reiterated that their position remains unchanged as the controversy continues to unfold.

The ICC meeting is expected to address the growing impasse among member boards and assess its potential impact on the tournament.
