Tigresses succumb to T20 series defeat against Ireland

The Bangladesh women's team conceded the Twenty20 series to Ireland after suffering a 47-run defeat at the hands of the visitors in the second game at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Saturday.

The victory meant Ireland took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

They won the first game by 12 runs.

While the Tigresses were looking to make a comeback, they were outclassed by a brilliant performance from the low-ranked Irish side.

Orla Prendergast was instrumental in the Irish victory by demonstrating a stellar all-round performance that steered the touring side to their destination with ease.

Electing to bat first, Ireland racked up 134/5 before bowling Bangladesh out for just 87 in 17.1 overs.

This was Bangladesh's lowest total against the Irish side.

Prendergast, who hammered a 25-ball 32 with the willow, ran through Bangladesh by claiming 3/13 with the ball.

No Bangladesh batters, apart from in-form Sharmin Akhter Supta, could offer any resistance against a disciplined attack.

Supta top-scored for her side with a 43-ball 38.

Only two other batters could reach double digit with Shorna Akter making 20 and opener Dilara Akter adding 10.

Arlene Kelly and Laura Delany grabbed two wickets apiece to complement Prendergast.

Before picking up three wickets, Delany contributed handsomely in batting too by scoring team-best 35 from 25 deliveries, sending the ball across the ropes four times.

Prendergast was the only other batter to score over 30.

Opener Amy Hunter got off to a good start but failed to convert it into a big knock as she fell for a run-a-ball 23.

Leah Paul, who blasted 45-ball 79 in the previous match to tear apart the Bangladesh bowlers, made only 16 this time.

Nahida Akter took 2/20 in four overs while Jahanara Alam, Jannatul Ferdous and Fahima Khatun picked up one wicket each.
