The series deciding One Day International between hosts Bangladesh and India in Mirpur Saturday ended in a cliffhanger as the game was tied to bring to a closure a closely-fought three-match series that eventually concluded 1-1.
However, following the third and final ODI, much of the talk was centered around Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her controversial reaction after being dismissed.
Off the fourth delivery of the 34th over with India chasing 226 for a series victory, Harmanpreet tried to sweep Nahida Akter only for the ball to loop into the air after striking her leg.
First slip fielder Fahima Khatun grabbed the ball before umpire Tanvir Ahmed signalled out as a furious Harmanpreet first struck the stumps with her willow.
She then proceeded towards the dressing room but not before exchanging some words with Tanvir to whom she indicated that the ball had brushed her bat.
While making her way to the dressing room, a clearly frustrated Harmanpreet showed a thumbs up sign to the weekend crowd.
Later in the post-match presentation ceremony, the Indian skipper also took a swipe at the Bangladesh umpires.
Her teammate, opening batter Smriti Mandhana though backed her leader in the post-match press conference.
Mandhana said, “I think when you want to win so badly, I'm sure that in the spirit of the game and all of that things, definitely we can have a talk about it later. But just knowing Harman as a person and knowing her how much she wants to win for India, I'm sure from the spirit of the game, I wouldn't say that it is, but when you really want that W on the board for India, these things happen.
“I think we are no one to really sit down and decide on ban or anything. I'm sure there's an International Cricket Council panel and umpiring panel who have the right to decide on all of those things and I'm sure they will. And so, I wouldn't really comment anything on it because it's not right from a player that I comment anything on it.”
