Walton Central Zone Saturday completed the Bangladesh Cricket League double, adding the one-day title to the longer version crown earlier this season, as Mosaddek Hossain's side defeated BCB South Zone by six wickets in the 50-over final in Sylhet.
Central had beaten the same opponents in the final of the longer version and did the double after captain Mosaddek led from the front with an all-round display amid overcast condition.
Central, missing all-rounder Shakib al Hasan in the final, asked South to bat first and the bowlers, including Mosaddek, made full use of the helpful condition to dismiss the opposition for 163 in 48.5 overs.
South openers Pinak Ghosh (35) and Anamul Haque (20) put on 51 but after their departures they lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to bat out the full complement of 50 overs.
Nahidul Islam struck 31 and No 3 batter Amit Hasan made 29 to add some sort of respectability to South's below-par total.
Mosaddek picked up two wickets while Nazmul Islam Apu, Soumya Sarkar, Hasan Murad and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury also took two each.
In reply, Central were off to a flying start as openers Mizanur Rahman (39) and Soumya (21) put on 65.
But they were then in a spot of bother, losing four wickets for 11 runs, including the in-form Mohammad Mithun (four), who returned to the side after missing the last two matches in the group phase.
Mosaddek (33 not out) then got about resurrecting their chase and alongside Al Amin (53 not out), navigated the side to the destination without further hiccups, and 45 deliveries remaining.
Player of the final and series, Mosaddek played 85 deliveries in his workmanlike innings, hitting two fours, while Al Amin was the aggressor with his 69-ball knock featuring half a dozen boundaries.
Mustafizur Rahman went wicketless for South, while Mahedi Hasan and Nasum Ahmed shared four wickets between themselves, and also bowled economically in their combined 20 overs, but they had insufficient to defend in the end.
The cricketers will now return to Dhaka before the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 begins this Friday at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
