Former South African batsman Ashwell Prince has joined Bangladesh national team coaching staff as the full-time batting coach, both Prince and Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the development.
The former batsman will work under Tigers head coach Russell Domingo, who is also a South African.
Prince was included in the Bangladesh coaching staff for the first time during the Zimbabwe tour.
He will play the role till the World T20I 2022, which will take place in Australia.
Prince said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the Bangladesh team during what was obviously a very successful tour for the team in Zimbabwe. The level of cricket played by both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe was of a really high standard.
“On the last night of the tour the entire team had assembled around an African bonfire to do a debrief on what was obviously a very satisfying tour of Zimbabwe, but also to plan for the approaching tour against Australia. I don’t think the results (against Australia) came as a surprise to anyone in the Bangladesh camp. When I was subsequently offered the chance to join the team on a full-time basis, it was a no-brainer.
“I believe Domingo has created a really positive team environment with an extremely talented squad, a vastly experienced backroom staff that I really enjoyed working with. So I think it is fair to say, I really look forward to joining up with the team again.“
“We contracted with Prince for a period of 22 months,” BCB cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan told UNB Thursday.
“He will work as the batting coach of Bangladesh till the World T20I 2022. We are happy with what he has done so far for us.”
It will be Prince’s first stint as the specialist coach of an international team.
To take the new role, Prince resigned from the post of the head coach of South Africa's Western Province.
During his playing days, Price played 66 Tests, 52 ODIs and one T20I for South Africa.
After finishing his playing career, Prince started his coaching role working with the Cobras who are a franchise dissolved into Western Province.
