Mushfiq opts out of Zimbabwe T20s

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has opted to sit out the T20 series during their tour of Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh are set to travel to Africa later this month for a month-long series involving one Test match, three ODIs and as many T20s.

Bangladesh Cricket Board's member of the national selection panel, Minhajul Abdein said the veteran Mushfiq has informed of his wish to the selection panel Monday.

Minhajul further informed that Mushfiq’s decision has been due to the bio-bubble fatigue, which is becoming increasingly tough for the players.

"Mushfiq called me (Monday) and wanted to opt out from the T20 series against Zimbabwe. Bio-bubble fatigue has been tough on the players, and a reason for him to opt out and remain fresh for the upcoming [T20] games against Australia and New Zealand [to be played in Bangladesh following the tour of Zimbabwe]. We are yet to take a decision in this regard, but we must respect their decisions in such cases,” said chief selector Minhajul to the media Monday.

As of now the series against hosts Zimbabwe is scheduled to start on July 7 with the lone Test.

Bangladesh will play a two-day practice game on July 3 and 4, but it will be dependent on the number of days the tourists will have to spend in quarantine.

If they are required to do a five- to seven-day quarantine after reaching Zimbabwe on June 29, then the two-day practice game is unlikely to be played.
