Bangladesh continued to showcase strong batting display in their first Test against hosts Sri Lanka as two overnight batsmen Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque broke heaps of records Thursday, the second day of the match in Kandy.
Shanto, who scored his maiden ton on the first day, stretched his innings to 163 and built a record third wicket stand of 242 with Mominul.
The latter was part of the previous record as he formed a 236-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim against Sri Lanka in 2018 in Chittagong.
Shanto got his first ton after making his debut four years earlier and his captain Mominul also tasted a somewhat maiden century.
The diminutive southpaw scored 10 centuries, highest by any Bangladeshi in Tests, before this match but none of them had come away from home.
Bangladesh top-order batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto doesn’t want to get carried away with his maiden Test century.

As a matter of fact his first away century wiped his name from the world record of scoring most number of centuries without one away from home.
Now, India’s Rohit Sharma is the new holder of this awkward record with seven tons.
The mammoth partnership of Shanto and Mominul was only the second one in the history of Bangladesh that lasted over 500 balls.
However, the 514-ball stand missed the all-time record for the country by just four balls as Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiq had faced 518 deliveries against Sri Lanka in Galle during their 267-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
