Bangladesh off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz is delighted to showcase a strong performance after a below-par outing in the ongoing ODI series against visitors West Indies.
Miraz in the first game of the series finished with a wicket conceding 29 runs.
While in the second match Friday at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, the off-spinner led Bangladesh’s attack with aplomb taking four scalps and restricting the opponents to a low total of 148.
Bangladesh, later propelled by captain Tamim Iqbal’s 75-ball 50 and all-rounder Shakib al Hasan’s unbeaten 43, chased the target down with seven wickets intact and 100 balls remaining.
Miraz was adjudged Man of the Match for his career-best four for 25.

His previous best in ODIs, 4 for 29, had also come against the West Indies in 2018.
“I am happy with my performance. Was a bit upset following the first game but I am happy of how it went and the way everyone supported me,” said Miraz at the post match virtual conference.
Miraz credited his personal coach, Sohel Islam, for the performance.
“We did not get enough time to work with Daniel Vettori (Bangladesh spin coach). But I have worked a lot with my personal coach, Sohel sir. I was not bowling well in (BCB) President’s Cup and Bangabandhu T20 Cup (domestic tournaments) and I was upset. I used to discuss with Sohel sir and he worked very hard to get my things right. I am thankful to him,” said the 23-year old.
Bangladesh have secured the ODI series 2-0 with a game to spare.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan has been named captain as the Bangladesh Cricket Board declared a 14-member squad for the three-day warm-up game against visitors West Indies.

The win yesterday for Bangladesh was the seventh consecutive against the West Indies, including matches of the World Cup 2019 and the hat-trick of bilateral series victories.
Miraz claimed the confidence built from consecutive wins against the Caribbean side, along with the fact that the team are on song in terms of communication, have helped Bangladesh clinch the series win easily.
“We have won seven games in a row against the West Indies, including matches in the World Cup. So we had a good confidence level going into the series against them. The best thing is that the team communication is at a good level now and everyone is trying to put their best foot forward when needed,” Miraz explained.
“When we went to the West Indies (in 2018), almost all our players had done well there, not only the bowlers but the batsmen too. Tamim scored two centuries, Shakib played 90-plus run innings. Mushfiqur (Rahim) and Mahmudullah made their contributions.
“In the World Cup we won against the West Indies by a good margin. Shakib scored a hundred, Liton Das played a 90-run innings and others had chipped in too. At home all our departments are doing well and this is because of good communication within the team,” he added.
