One U-19 cricketer selected for the residential camp tested Covid-19 positive, and has been sent in isolation.
Bangladesh Cricket Board is conducting Covid-19 test of the cricketers in three batches.
Iftekhar Hossain, part of the second batch of 15 players for the test, tested positive Wednesday.
The remaining cricketers of the batch tested negative, and have been sent to BKSP for the month-long camp, set to start from Sunday.
“We took sample of second batch of 15 cricketers Tuesday. One has been found positive [for Covid-19]. He is in isolation now [under BCB management] and the rest of the players have been sent to BKSP for the camp,” BCB game development manager MA Kayser informed to the media Wednesday.
BCB had initially announced a 45-member U-19 squad for the camp.
A last minute decision by the selectors saw the squad another cricketer, turning it into a 46-member contingent.
As part of the health safety protocol, the cricketers and staffs are being tested for Covid-19 before allowing them into the camp in Savar.
A total of 30 cricketers and 12 staffs have been tested so far.
“We have included one more cricketer in the squad. Samples for the test of the last batch of 16 cricketers will be collected Thursday and the camp will start according to plan,” said Kayser.
During this four-week long camp, the 46-cricketers will play eight matches at BKSP, and based on their performances in these matches, around 25 to 30 cricketers will be shortlisted for the next batch of Bangladesh men's U-19 team.
