Soumya feels competition for position helps team prosper

Bangladesh top order batsman Soumya Sarker said runs from top order batsmen means good sign for the team’s healthy competition and the outcome will be positive.

Soumya took a break from the first two ODIs against visiting Zimbabwe due to his nuptial and was not selected for the third ODI. But he was picked in the first T20I in the series and batted at top order, in number three position on Monday.

The left-hander was not unaffected with the hiatus as he batted brilliantly to smash 62 off just 32 deliveries with four fours and five sixes and later adjudged man of the match.

Tamim Iqbal and Liton Kumar Das are opening the batting for Tigers at the moment in recent times and other top order batsman Mohammad Naeem Sheikh is also been among runs. Soumya’s superb display of batting at the top order is thus creating healthy competition for Tigers and the southpaw sees this match an excellent prospectus for the Tigers.

“I have batted in number three position after quite a long time. But there is no preference. When team needed me to bat at late middle order, then I batted at number six-seven. Now the team wants me to bat at top order so I batted at number three. I will bat in any position according to team’s demand,” said the batsman during the post match press conference at Mirpur on Monday.

“Scoring run is always good for the team. It increases healthy competition among players. And thus it benefits the team. Whoever scores run and perform it will bring benefit to the team.  Nayeem has performed well recently. I have batted well today at number three. Whoever performs well, will play the game. It’s good for the team,” said the batsman who made his second fifty and highest innings at T20I on Monday.
