WC winning U-19 squad returns home Wednesday

The World Cup winning Bangladesh U-19 squad is scheduled to return home Wednesday, and Bangladesh Cricket Board is planning celebrations for the triumphant young Tigers.

Bangladesh beat India in the final of the U-19 World Cup in South Africa Sunday to bring the first ever World Cup for the cricket-frenzied nation.

The Akbar Ali-led side, who were unbeaten in the tournament, will arrive on an Emirates flight that is scheduled to land at 4:55pm local time.

The BCB has already adorned its headquarters in Mirpur with huge banners of the triumphant players, and BCB president Nazmul Hasan told the media that they are planning to reward the young Tigers for accomplishing the remarkable feat.

Sources said BCB directors and high-ups will be present at the airport to welcome the champion, and Nazmul is supposed to announce a bonus for the team.

As the players are fatigued after being in South Africa for over a month and had a hectic schedule over the last year-and-a-half due to their preparations for the global tournament, the BCB has shelved plans for a grand reception for the time being.

A grand celebration will be executed with the aid of the government at a later date.
