Bangladesh women champions in World T20I Qualifiers

Bangladesh clinched the World T20I Qualifiers’ title after beating Ireland by 25 runs in the final on Saturday.

Ireland were bundled out for just 97 runs while chasing the 123 run target. Bangladesh pacer Panna Ghosh picked up five wickets for the Tigresses, conceding just 16 runs. Panna’s  5 for 16 is the best bowling figure by a Bangladeshi in women cricket history, bettering Jahana Alam’s 5 for 28. Jahanara also achieved that feat against Ireland last month.

Rumana Ahmed and Nahida also took two wickets for Bangladesh.

Earlier, Ireland won the toss and elected to field first. Bangladesh scored 122 in the end in their stipulated 20 overs losing nine wickets.  Aysha Rahman Shuktara scored 46 runs for Bangladesh which is her career best innings.

Bangladesh had also beaten Papua New Guinea, Netherlands, United Arab Emirates and Scotland prior to the final.

Meanwhile, this is the third major trophy for the Bangladesh women’s cricket team in the last month. First, they had won the Asia Cup beating India in the final at Malaysia last month. Then, they won against hosts Ireland 2-1 before the Qualifiers this month. And then now they have beaten Ireland in the final to clinch the World T20I Qualifiers trophy.
