Sylhet Sixers mentor and former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis informed that he is here to help the youngsters of the Sylhet team during the BPL 2017.
“I am here to help the youngsters. There are practice sessions almost every day where youngsters can be helped. Often they asked me to help. And I also can help the management for developing a good team. So the team might need some help. And I am here to help in various aspects which can be good for both parties,” Waqar said to the media at Mirpur Academy Ground in Dhaka Sunday.
“I am trying to help the fast bowlers and also trying to help the batsmen. I am in this business for many years. I have worked in all these T20 leagues also. I know how things can be done in this kind of competition.
“Mentoring is similar like coaching. We have plenty of experience. Faruk [Ahmed] bhai is there. We sit down and share our thoughts. We try to put together our planning and then implement it on practice,” he added.
Sylhet started the tournament brightly as they won three matches in a row during the Sylhet phase of the BPL. But later their form slumped as they lost their next three games. So far Sylhet have acquired seven points and are at fourth position. Waqar believes injury caused some problems in the previous ties but the team will turn around from the next round onwards.
“I think we have got experience in our bowling line-up. We have got Tim Bresnan and Liam Plunkett in our side who have experience in international arena. We have couple of youngsters also. Also Abul Hasan Raju is there. They are talented kids. We started the tournament well by winning three games. Unfortunately some injuries halted our progress. Plunkett could not give his 100%. But we are hoping to bounce back. Every game is a new game and fresh start. So we want to come hard,” the 46-year old concluded.
