Football star Ritu Porna receives housing grant from PM

Star of Bangladesh women football team Ritu Porna Chakma. has received financial assistance from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for the construction of her family home.

The grant cheque was handed over to Rituparna at the Prime Minister’s Office during a break in the budget session at the National Parliament Bhaban on Tuesday afternoon.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Helal Uddin, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Shariful Alam, and Bangladesh Football Federation President Tabith Awal were present at the ceremony.

The assistance follows earlier support provided to Ritu Porna’s family in 2025, when her mother was undergoing cancer treatment. Acting on the instructions of then BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and “Amra BNP Poribar” Convener Atikur Rahman Ruman visited the footballer’s home in the remote hill district of Rangamati and extended financial assistance to the family.

One of the leading figures in Bangladesh women’s football, Ritu Porna played a vital role in the national team’s title-winning campaigns at the SAFF Women's Championship in 2022 and 2024. She also made a significant contribution to Bangladesh’s historic qualification for the final round of the AFC Women's Asian Cup in 2025, achieved for the first time in the country’s history.

Hailing from a modest family in the hill tracts, Ritu Porna has become a symbol of perseverance and inspiration, earning national recognition through her achievements on the international stage.
