Weightlifting, gymnastics to get coaches from China

The Bangladesh Olympic Association is in talks with China to get a couple of coaches for the weightlifting and gymnastic federations for a short-term duration to boost up the disciplines ahead of their preparation for the forthcoming South Asian Games scheduled to be held in Nepal December this year.

“We made contacts with China one year ago in order to get five coaches for as many different disciplines. They agreed to provide us three coaches for weightlifting, athletics and gymnastics but for three months only. It’s less likely to get athletics coach but we are hopeful to get coaches for other two disciplines soon.” said BOA Director General Fakhruddin Haider on Monday.

Fakhruddin also added that they sent a couple of reminders in the last one month to get the curriculum vitae (CV) of the respective coaches. “It’s an ongoing process. We wanted the CVs of the coaches. Once we get to know who the coaches are and we are happy with that, the further formalities will be done soon; may be within a week.”

Meanwhile on Saturday, while announcing their plan to host country’s biggest multi-sports event, Bangladesh Games, next year as part of year-long celebrations of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, BOA secretary general Syed Shahed Reza had informed that they may send selective athletes for training abroad ahead of the SA Games.
