‘Mirzapur’ tops IMDb’s Indian streaming series rankings

Mirzapur has appeared on IMDb’s annual list of India’s most popular web series nine times over the past decade, according to a report released by the platform.

Titled 10 Years of Streaming in India — An IMDb Report 2026, the report examines popular Indian web series from 2016 to 2026. Published on Tuesday, it covers 110 chart positions across 64 titles, with rankings based on page views on IMDb, the Amazon-owned entertainment database.

Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story also performed consistently, appearing on the annual charts five times despite having only one season.

The year-by-year rankings reflect changing audience preferences. TVF’s Pitchers topped the chart in 2016, followed by Prime Video’s Inside Edge in 2017. Netflix’s Sacred Games led in both 2018 and 2019.

Scam 1992 topped the rankings in 2020, followed by TVF’s Aspirants in 2021 and Criminal Justice in 2022. Prime Video’s Farzi led in 2023, while Mirzapur took the top spot in 2024.

The Ba*ds of Bollywood topped the 2025 chart, while Pritam and Pedro was the most popular Indian series from 2026 through October 15.

TVF emerged as a major contributor to the streaming industry, with nine distinct series accounting for 17 chart entries. Its presence on the rankings spanned a decade, from Pitchers in 2016 to Sapne vs Everyone in 2026.

The report also highlighted actors Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey, Jitendra Kumar, Kapil Sharma, and Sunil Grover for their repeated appearances in popular streaming productions.

Kay Kay Menon, Naveen Kasturia and Mona Singh were recognised for their versatility, while Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha, Barun Sobti and Karan Tacker were noted for taking on varied roles across different formats.

Despite growing audience engagement, the number of new streaming series and seasons commissioned in India has declined for two consecutive years. Commissions fell from 202 in 2023 to 169 in 2024 and 145 in 2025. Hindi-language productions accounted for 66% of Indian streaming originals in 2025.

Overall, the report estimates that audience engagement with Indian web series has increased approximately 17-fold over the past decade.

Yaminie Patodia, head of IMDb India, said the report builds on the platform’s previous research into Indian cinema, using IMDb data to examine how streaming has transformed audience interests.

The report also includes insights from industry figures, including Gaurav Gandhi of Prime Video, Gunjan Soni of YouTube, Monika Shergill of Netflix, former Applause Entertainment chief executive Sameer Nair and Vijay Koshy of TVF.
