National Film Award-winning filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain's latest feature, The Difficult Bride, has been selected for the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), marking another international milestone after becoming the first Bangladeshi feature film chosen for the Orizzonti section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
Rubaiyat shared the news on social media, writing: "Next stop TIFF! See you there!" alongside the film's screening schedule.
The Difficult Bride will be screened three times during the festival. The first screening is scheduled for 4pm on September 16, followed by a second screening at 10pm on September 17. The final screening will take place at 12:15pm on September 19.
The first two screenings will be held at TIFF Lightbox Cinema 4 (Paul & Leah Atkinson Family Cinema), while the third will take place at Scotiabank Theatre, Cinema 7.
Set in contemporary Dhaka, The Difficult Bride is a psychological horror film that explores themes of beauty, womanhood, marriage, and societal expectations through a supernatural narrative.
The film stars newcomer Zaineen Chowdhury Karim in the lead role alongside Azmeri Haque Badhan, Reekita Nondine Shimu, Sunerah Binte Kamal, Shatabdi Wadud, Saberi Alam, and Mohammed Bari.
The 51st Toronto International Film Festival will be be held from September 10 to 20.
