Alia Bhatt joins Tumbbad 2

Alia Bhatt has joined the cast of "Tumbbad 2," the sequel to the 2018 horror film, with lead actor and producer Sohum Shah confirming the news on social media.

Sohum announced Bhatt's casting on Instagram, sharing photos of the two together.

Explaining why she joined the project, Bhatt said the original film had left a lasting impression on her.

She said, "Tumbbad has stayed with me ever since I first watched it. Very few films create a world that feels this original and immersive, and even fewer continue to grow in people's imagination years after they've released. That's what makes this opportunity so exciting."

The makers have not disclosed details of Bhatt's role. However, Indian media reports said her character will play a key role in the sequel and continue into "Tumbbad 3."

Directed by Adesh Prasad, "Tumbbad 2" also stars Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

The sequel revisits the mythology of Hastar and expands the story introduced in the original film.

Carrying the tagline "Pralay Aayega," "Tumbbad 2" is scheduled to release in theaters on December 3, 2027.

Bhatt was most recently seen in "Alpha" and will next appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Love & War," alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
