Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap praises Bangladeshi film 'Delupi'

Bangladeshi filmmaker Mohammad Towkir Islam's debut feature film "Delupi" has earned praise from acclaimed Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

Released in Bangladeshi theaters last year, Delupi received critical acclaim at home before being screened at several international film festivals. Kashyap recently watched the film and shared his thoughts on the film review platform Letterboxd.

In his Letterboxd review, Kashyap praised the film for its humane storytelling and political depth.

"Delupi shows how the politics of power operates even at the smallest levels of society. Set in a village that becomes cut off from the rest of the country after a change in government and devastating floods, the story feels so deeply human that it could easily be about a village next to our own. I absolutely loved it," he wrote, adding a heart emoji.

"Delupi" was released in Bangladesh on November 7, 2025. Set against the backdrop of southern Khulna, the film explores the realities of river erosion, climate change, the impact of national politics on local communities, and the everyday struggles of ordinary people
