Indian music icon Zubeen Garg, who died last year at just 52, was remembered on Tuesday with the release of one of his unreleased Bengali tracks, “Abujh Pakhi.”
The song premiered on lyricist-producer Zulfiqer Russell’s YouTube channel, Zuti, with music arranged by Tunai Debasish Ganguly.
Russell revealed that Zubeen had recorded 14 songs, seven in Bengali and seven in Hindi, between 2015 and 2016 at his home studio in Assam.
“These songs are a valuable asset. Abujh Pakhi is one of them, and the Hindi version will be released soon,” he said.
The decision to release the vault tracks rests with Zubeen’s wife, Garima Garg.
Ganguly, who met her on November 15, said only one song could be released now due to her illness.
“This tribute is for Assam and fans around the world. Zubeen will remain in millions of hearts,” he added.
The creators had originally planned a music video shoot in Meghalaya, but Zubeen’s sudden death halted the project.
The remaining songs will be released gradually, with proceeds donated to a trust established in his name.
Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 during the Northeast Festival in Singapore, after respiratory complications during a scuba dive.
Investigations into his death are still ongoing.
