Bangladeshi audiences will be able to watch the film ‘Anyadin...’ directed by Kamar Ahmad Simon and produced by Sara Afrin in theaters in July.
‘Anyadin...’ was the official selection of the Cinfondation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017. For this Kamar Ahmad Simon received the ‘Featured Director’ award as the first Bangladeshi director at the Piazza Grande in Locarno in 2016, as well as the Arte International Prize from France. In addition, ‘Anyadin...’ won the Grant Award from Sundance in 2014.
In 2021, ‘Anyadin...’ had its ‘World Premiere’ or debut at the Tuscan Theatre in Amsterdam, the most beautiful city in the world, in the main competition of one of the world’s leading festivals, EDFA. 'Anyadin' was described as 'kaleidoscopic and philosophical' on the EDFA website.
Then in 2022, it won the 'Harrell Award' for Best Feature Film from Camden, one of the North American festivals, it was nominated for the 'Golden Eye' in Zurich, competed in the Festival of Three Continents in Nantes, and was an official selection in Sydney.
'Anyadin...' is the second film of the Water Trilogy produced by Kamar Ahmad Simon. Kamar came into the limelight with the first film of the Water Trilogy, ‘Shunte Ki Pao!’. For the film, it won the Grand Prix for Best Film at the Cinema du Relais at the George Pompidou Center in Paris and the Golden Conch at the Mumbai International Film Festival, among many other international awards. The film also received the National Film Award.
Expressing hope for the release of the films that were stuck in the past, on Anyadin’s certification, Kamar said, "We have to start practicing today what Bangladesh will be like after 2024. The fight ahead is about cultural narrative, and cinema will be the most important medium in this fight."
