Nawshaba, animal rights activists hold talks with Animal Welfare Department

Recently with the incident of poisoning stray cats and dogs at Japan Garden City, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed along with the ‘Paw’ foundation have filed a GD at the Adabor Police Station.

Together We Can, People for Animal Welfare (Paw) Foundation, Avian Treatment Center Bangladesh and Deep Ecology and Snake Conservation Foundation, along with actress Nowshaba, met with Director General of Animal Welfare Department, Dr Mohammad Reazul Haque to propose solutions to recent crises related to animal rights.

Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock gave instructions to ensure investigation and trial in this incident at the earliest and the Director General of the Department of Livestock was present during the autopsy and supervised it. When the delegation asked about the progress of the next legal action, Dr Reazul, Director General of the Department of Livestock, said that the autopsy report will be released as soon as possible and the next step will be taken accordingly. He assured of dynamism in taking action to set an example of giving necessary punishment to stop cruelty to animals and creating awareness.

In addition, in the discussion, the animal welfare workers present called on the relevant authorities and animal welfare organizations to work together in various activities related to animal welfare and animal rights, including taking necessary measures to implement the Animal Welfare Act, dynamism in taking legal action against any allegations of cruelty to animals.

Apart from Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, the meeting was attended by Zafar Iqbal, Advisor of the Po Foundation and Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Executive Director, Dr Amit Sinha, Co-Founder of ‘Together We Can’ and Anik Chowdhury, Volunteer Member, Sifat E Rabbani, Founder of Avian Treatment Center, and Syeda Ananya Faria, Director of Deep Ecology.
