Shakib Khan’s ‘Toofan’ takes Bangladesh by storm

The Shakib Khan starrer “Toofan” is successfully running all over Bangladesh as moviegoers are enjoying a long-anticipated masala film of the Dhallywood megastar after a long time, which led to a record-breaking scenario for the theatres across the country.

The Raihan Rafi-directed action-thriller film is breaking the record for the number of shows for any Bangla film at Star Cineplex, Blockbuster Cinemas and also at single-screen theatres, according to multiple sources.

A total of five movies were released this Eid-ul-Azha. Alongside "Toofan,"  the other films are "Agontuk,"  "Dark World," "Moyurakkhi"  and "Revenge."

“At present, ‘Toofan’ is being screened in 129 cinema halls across the country, and we got the report that every hall is full. Star Cineplex started ‘Toofan’ screening with 12 shows on Eid day, which was later increased to 22 shows, then gradually increased, and as of today, Star Cineplex has been running 55 shows per day, which will be increased to 58 shows on Friday,” Shahriar Shakil, producer of the film under Alpha-i Studios, told the media on Thursday.

Similarly, the other major multiplex chain in the city, Blockbuster Cinemas, screened 15 shows on Thursday and it will screen 17 shows on Friday, according to both Shakil and the multiplex website.

Shakil, while briefing the media on the response the film has received, also said the other multiplexes and single screens across the country are reporting overwhelming ticket sales.

"To determine a movie's precise amount of sales following its theatrical release, we have to undergo a rigorous process. As of Thursday, we learned from the Star Cineplex authorities that ‘Toofan’ has made around Tk1.2 crore in gross sales since Eid day till now, which is a record for any local or international release in Star Cineplex’s history.”

“We obviously had bigger expectations for ‘Toofan’ as megastar Shakib Khan delivered his best performance in this film; however, the attendance of the audiences and sales reports coming from different multiplexes made us spellbound. ‘Toofan’ has surpassed all of our expectations and calculations,” said the film's director, Raihan Rafi.

Starring Shakib Khan as the lead alongside West Bengal sensation Mimi Chakraborty, acclaimed Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury and Masuma Rahman Nabila, among others, "Toofan" is produced by Alpha-i Studios, Bangladeshi OTT giant Chorki, and Indian film production and distribution company Shree Venkatesh Films (SVF).

The film will have its international release on June 28.
