Artist Morshed Mishu on Thursday wore a lungi to Star Cineplex, protesting the incident of a man being denied tickets for his attire.
A video on the cartoonist’s page on Facebook shows him with another person standing in line for a ticket for “Poran”.
Later, Mishu was seen asking an employee at the counter why the elderly man, Saman Ali Sarkar, was denied a ticket for wearing lungi even though he had money to buy it.
He later asked why were they selling him a ticket as he too was wearing the same attire.
Later in the video, Mishu was seen ripping the ticket, while saying: “I told the elderly man I would tear off the ticket if I can buy one today.”
Meanwhile, Star Cineplex’s official page posted pictures of Sarkar and his family at the cineplex on Thursday evening.
“Our respect and best wishes to Saman Ali Sarkar and his family from Star Cineplex,” the post said.
On Wednesday, a video of Saman Ali Sarkar went viral on social media as authorities at the Sony square branch of Star Cineplex did not let him purchase tickets.
In the video, Sarkar said: “They did not sell tickets to me because I am wearing a lungi.”
After watching the video, social media users called out the authorities asking for an explanation of the incident.
Later, in a Facebook post, Star Cineplex clarified its stance on the issue and informed that they do not discriminate against customers based on anything.
